Exciting Multi-Modal Trail System Coming to Horizons Park

Forsyth County Parks & Recreation is pleased to announce the start of construction on a brand-new multi-modal trail system at Horizons Park. Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-June 2025, with an anticipated completion date in Spring 2026.

Located north of Memorial Industrial School Road, this project is part of the Horizons Park Conceptual Master Plan, which identified the area for the development of natural-surface trails suitable for biking, horseback riding, hiking, cross-country running, and nature exploration.

Once complete, the trail system will include approximately 8 miles of unimproved surface trails, a newly constructed paved parking area capable of accommodating both horse trailers and passenger vehicles, and important site amenities including trail signage, potable water access, trash receptacles, and landscaping.

The trail system is anchored by the Beech Trail, a 3.2-mile primary route, with four connecting loops or spur trails:

• Cedar Trail – 2.3 miles
• Poplar Loop – 1 mile
• Oak Loop – 0.52 miles
• Pine Trail – 1 mile

Trails will feature a 16-foot total width, including a 10-foot tread width and 3-foot shoulders on each side. The system is designed to enhance recreational opportunities while preserving the natural character of Horizons Park.

The project also includes a multi-modal parking area, constructed with asphalt, curb and gutter design, and designated spaces for both trailers and standard vehicles.

This new trail system underscores Forsyth County’s commitment to expanding outdoor recreation and accessibility for all residents and visitors.
